Closer Watch

Arizona – After converting two save opportunities Monday and Tuesday, it looked like the Diamondbacks might go with Enrique Burgos as its closer. That changed Thursday, when the team turned to Brad Ziegler, who converted a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts. Ziegler has allowed just two runs and it was thought he had the inside track at saves before Burgos got his first save opportunity in an extra inning game Monday when Ziegler had already been used. Ziegler seems to be the choice now, but Burgos could hang in the mix.

Detroit – Joakim Soria blew Thursday's save opportunity by allowing a solo home run to Preston Tucker. It was his first blown save of the year and this job is not in jeopardy.

Texas – Neftali Feliz struggled was removed from the closer's job over the last weekend. It had looked like the Rangers would go with a committee approach, but Shawn Tolleson earned saves Wednesday and Thursday and he appears to have control of the job for now.

Recommended Pickup

Chris Colabello, 1B, TOR – Colabello spent seven years in independent leagues before the Twins signed him in 2012. He proceeded to hit 19 home runs at Double-A in 2012 and 24 home runs at Triple-A in 2013 before hitting seven more after being called up to the Twins. The problem was MLB pitching, and Colabello was not able to hit enough in two auditions with the Twins. The blue Jays pounced when he was exposed to waivers, and now Colabello is starting every day in right field. The power is present, but there is still doubt at how well he can hit despite raking in a .356 average in 59 at-bats thus far. Colabello is swinging a hot bat, though at 31-years-old there is little room for growth.
